What are the eligibility criteria and selection process for GDS?




The eligibility criteria and selection process for GDS are as follows:


Eligibility Criteria




  • The candidates must be between 18 to 40 years of age as on June 11, 2023. However, there is age relaxation for reserved categories as per government norms.



  • The candidates must have passed Class 10th or Matriculation or SSC with English and Maths as compulsory or elective subjects from a recognized board of school education in India.



  • The candidates must have studied the local language of the state for which they have applied at least up to Secondary standard (as compulsory or elective subjects).



  • The candidates must have basic computer knowledge and a certificate of at least 60 days duration from any recognized computer training institute.



  • The candidates must have knowledge of cycling as it is a pre-requisite condition for all GDS posts. However, if a candidate has knowledge of riding a scooter or motorcycle, that may be considered as knowledge of cycling.



Selection Process




  • The selection process for GDS is based on a system-generated merit list that is prepared according to the marks obtained by the candidates in their 10th standard examination.



  • No weightage or preference will be given to higher qualifications or work experience.



  • The merit list will be calculated to the accuracy of four decimals in the case of marks obtained by the candidates as per their 10th standard certificate or mark sheet.



  • In case of a tie, the merit order would be taken as DOB(higher age as merit), ST female, SC female, OBC female, EWS female, UR female, ST Male, SC Male, OBC male, EWS male, UR male.



  • The candidates who are shortlisted in the merit list will be called for document verification and appointment process.



  • The candidates will have to produce their original documents such as educational certificates, computer certificate, caste certificate, identity proof, etc. at the time of document verification.



  • The candidates will also have to submit a declaration stating that they have no claim to any other post or service under the central or state government.



  • The final selection and appointment of the candidates will be subject to their satisfactory completion of verification and genuineness of all educational and other documents produced by them.



What are the salary and benefits of GDS?




The salary and benefits of GDS are as follows:


Salary




The salary of GDS varies according to the category and post of the candidates. The minimum time related continuity allowance (TRCA) for 4 hours/level 1 in TRCA slab is Rs. 10,000 per month and for 5 hours/level 2 in TRCA slab is Rs. 12,000 per month. The maximum TRCA for 4 hours/level 1 in TRCA slab is Rs. 12,000 per month and for 5 hours/level 2 in TRCA slab is Rs. 14,500 per month. The TRCA is subject to annual increase as per the recommendations of the Department of Posts.

Benefits




The benefits of GDS include:


  • Leave entitlement: The GDS are entitled to 20 days paid leave in a year. They can also avail maternity leave for a maximum period of 180 days and paternity leave for a maximum period of 15 days.



  • Medical facilities: The GDS are covered under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) and can avail medical facilities at CGHS wellness centers.



  • Gratuity: The GDS are eligible for gratuity after completion of five years of service. The amount of gratuity is equal to half month's basic TRCA drawn immediately before the date of retirement multiplied by the number of completed years of service or Rs. 1.5 lakh, whichever is less.



  • Severance amount: The GDS are eligible for severance amount after completion of ten years of service. The amount of severance amount is equal to one month's basic TRCA drawn immediately before the date of retirement multiplied by the number of completed years of service or Rs. 1.5 lakh, whichever is less.



  • Voluntary retirement scheme: The GDS can opt for voluntary retirement after completion of ten years of service. The benefits under this scheme include ex-gratia payment equal to 1.25 times the sum of annual basic TRCA plus dearness allowance drawn during the last month immediately preceding the date of retirement and severance amount.
