this song has got to be one of the most underrated tracks off for unlawful carnal knowledge. it has a little bit of pat benatar (wish i was naughty girls night out) mixed in with some van halen. the riffs are pretty simple, but the track is really great. it has a slow tempo, but there is a simple groove. the lead vocal lines are simple, but they are catchy.

guitarist david lee roth had a few different guitarists playing behind him during his time with van halen. one of the more permanent was michael anthony, who would join the band in 1981. in the studio, eddie showed anthony how he wanted the song to be played. anthony, being the good guy that he was, agreed to play it as the others had laid out. this song appears on a few van halen album covers. however, the one that is probably most familiar to fans is the one that appears on the cover of their 1980 album, fair warning, on which eddie plays a stratocaster plugged straight into the console. the song would help propel the band to success, reaching number one on the billboard hot 100 for five weeks in a row, and number one on the mainstream rock chart for one month.
the number one song from van halen, this tune is a tribute to the world war ii veterans who had answered the call to duty. eddie sings about the bravery and heart he saw in those veterans, and the image of the father figure that made him want to be a musician. it's a straightforward, uplifting tune that would help launch van halen into success. it's also a great song to sing along to in the car, when youre getting ready to drive home.
